Vancouver is a wonderful city on Canada’s west coast. I had the chance to spend some time in Vancouver in May 2024. Vancouver was a place I wanted to visit for a long time since I love the mountains and the ocean. On our trip to Vancouver we also got to visit Whistler, Squamish, Victoria and Tofino and it was stunning!
Here’s how to spend 24 hours in Vancouver
The Basics
Airport: YVR – Vancouver International Airport
Timezone: Pacific Standard Time (PST)
Currency: Canadian Dollar (CAD)
Credit Cards and ATMS: Credit cards are widely accepted in Vancouver. There are plenty of ATMs available.
Plug Types: A&B
Safety: Vancouver is very safe, although there are a few areas that are generally advisable to avoid. As always, be aware of your surroundings.
Getting Around: Taxis, Uber, Lyft, Public Transportation, Driving, Biking, Walking.

Getting to Vancouver
You can fly into Vancouver International Airport (YVR). This is the main airport, located in Richmond, British Columbia, about 25 minutes from downtown Vancouver.
Drive to Vancouver! Keep in mind parking can be difficult to find and can get expensive. Traffic can get busy so if you’ll be driving in Vancouver be sure to leave extra time!
You can also visit Vancouver by train using Via Rail if you’re in Canada or take the Amtrack Cascades from Seattle, Washington.
Getting Around Vancouver
If you didn’t drive, you can get a rental car from places like Enterprise, Avis, or Turo. Theres also a car share program, Evo if you only need a car for a short while!
There’s tons of public transport options in Vancouver! You can take use the TransLink system and take the SkyTrain, busses, and SeaBus. Read more about the public transit options here.
Bike rentals are available or you can use the bike share system with Mobi. There are tons of bikeable areas in Vancouver with dedicated bike lanes!
Ubers, Lyfts and Taxis are also available!

Blue Horizon Hotel – located close to Gastown and Stanley Park, Blue Horizon Hotel is a great option for people visiting Vancouver who don’t plan on doing a lot of driving!
Fairmont Pacific Rim – For a luxury option consider the Fairmont! Fairmont Pacific Rim offers stunning views, is close to many attractions, offers a relaxing atmosphere, and a rooftop pool with stunning views of the ocean and mountains.
Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Vancouver Downtown – For a more budget-friendly option, the Hampton Inn & Suites in Downtown Vancouver offers a great convenient location close to tons of attractions.

Where to Eat in Vancouver
Breka – A 24-hour café with affordable pastries, sandwiches, and coffee. Prices are budget-friendly, with most items under $10. The vibe is cozy and casual, perfect for a quick bite!
Richmond Night Market – This doubles as as something to do! Richmond Night Market is a lively night market filled with Asian street food, bubble tea, and unique snacks. Prices vary, with most dishes around $5-$20. The atmosphere is bustling and exciting, making it a great evening activity.
Japadog – Famous for its Japanese inspired twist on hot dogs, Japadog overs hot dogs topped with ingredients like teriyaki, seaweed, and wasabi mayo. Prices range from $6-$10 per hot dog. The vibe is casual and fun, great for a quick and unique food experience.
Phnom Penh Restaurant – A great spot for Vietnamese and Cambodian cuisine, known for its butter beef and garlic chicken wings. Prices are mid-range ($15-$25 per dish).
Burgoo – A cozy comfort food spot serving soups, stews, and sandwiches. Prices range from $15-$25 per dish. The vibe is warm and inviting, making it perfect for a rainy day meal!
Cindy’s – A brunch spot with delicious food. They often have live music in the restaurant and there is a great laidback vibe! They have vegetarian options and prices are around $15 – $25 per dish.


What to do in Vancouver
Vancouver Aquarium – Vancouver Aquarium is located in the heart of Stanley Park. It’s home to over 65,000 ocean species. Enjoy the Sea Lion show, the 4D theatre, and the touch pools. Vancouver Aquarium also runs the Marine Mammal Rescue Centre (MMRC), one of the largest marine animal rescue and rehabilitation programs in Canada. It’s a great family-friendly aquarium, where everyone can learn something new!
Granville Island – Granville Island was once an industrial area but is now a hub for local artists, theaters, and unique boutiques. Check out the Public Market, artisan shops, and waterfront dining. Enjoy fresh sushi while overlooking the beautiful False Creek. This is a great place to walk around, grab some food or a drink while enjoying the island’s lively atmosphere.
Seawall and Stanley Park – The Vancouver Seawall is the perfect place to take in the city’s best views. Walk, bike, or just visit to watch the sunset over the beautiful waterfront views located along the edge of Stanley Park. Stanley Park feels like a little escape from the city, even though it’s right in the heart of Vancouver. Walk along beautiful trails, check out the beach and visit the Totem Poles!
