We recently stayed overnight in our own private Wizard-themed escape room! Thanks to Romantic Adventure Getaways for hosting us in their Wizard Romance suite! We’ve stayed with them before in their Night in Paris suite and had an amazing time, so we were so excited for the opportunity to stay with them again.
Romantic Adventure Getaway offers some truly amazing themed mini resort suites in Hillsboro, Ohio, and Mount Vernon, Ohio, and they’ll soon be opening another location in Morrison, Illinois. It’s like half resort, half escape room. They offer a wide range of themed options, more about those later. We had the chance to stay at their Hillsboro location, just an hour and a half away from Columbus. Staying at such a unique experience that was so close to us was so refreshing. We didn’t need to book flights or pack for a few-day trip, it was so simple!
Our Night at the Wizard Romance Suite
We opened the door to our suite and, like last time, we were blown away. The details put into the suites are crazy! In the foyer, we were greeted with pictures of wizards, but the best part was that they had a slideshow of different themed pictures they created of us. The pictures were so funny, and it was such a great personal touch! We stood there for probably about 5 minutes looking through them all and laughing!
We walked up the stairs into the rest of our suite, music started playing, lights came on, and that really made us feel like we were transported to Hogwarts! The first room we walked into was the kitchen/dining room area. We put our bags down and changed into our complimentary robes. Then we followed the white rose petals to our very first clue, ready to start our adventure!
The goal of the suite was to solve clues and uncover hidden trophies to complete the trophy room. I don’t want to get too much into the clues and all the amazing rooms you uncover, so that I don’t spoil it for anyone! It’s truly something you should experience with your partner.
We were led into the bedroom, which was super cool! The details in the bedroom (and throughout the whole suite) were amazing! They had our names spelled out in rose petals, colour-changing clouds on the ceiling, and there was even a castle-themed loft area above the bed!
We kept following the clues, unlocking hidden rooms we didn’t know existed! We unlocked spiral stairs to the jetted tub area. This room was great! They had one of these jetted tubs at our last suite, and it’s so relaxing! Plus, the shower is a really relaxing rainfall shower! In this room, there was also a hot stone massage activity!
After solving more clues together, crawling through hidden tunnels, and even competing against each other, we made it to the Harry Potter photo spot! We got to dress up and take pictures like we were in a Quidditch tournament! This was so much fun!
One thing I love about staying with Romantic Adventure Getaways is that there are so many things you think are just decoration, then later in the night, you find out it’s much more than that! After some more clue-solving later, and after sliding down a hidden slide, we made it to the wand-making room! This was so unexpected, but a lot of fun! They supply everything you need to make your very own wands to take home. We had so much fun designing and painting our wands, and now we have magic wands that will always remind us of our stay!
After that, we hopped on the actual Hogwarts Express train. No joke, we were completely shocked and didn’t see it coming. It ended up being one of the top highlights of our stay, before we made our way to the massage chair room. I think this is my husband’s favourite room!
Together, we solved the remaining clues, uncovered more hidden rooms, did a few more activities, crawled through more secret tunnels, and finally earned our last trophy, unlocking the final hidden door!
This was such an amazing experience. I’m always blown away at the thought and detail put into everything in their suites, and this was no different. We were really impressed with how different this experience was from our Night in Paris experience. We were expecting the activities, hints, and ways to unlock new rooms to be the same, but themed differently, but it was totally different! It was truly never a dull moment, and we never knew what to expect.

Tips for Staying with Romantic Adventure Getaways
Get there at check-in! Or as close to check-in as you can. Things are on timers, and this helps the whole process go a bit smoother, plus you’ll be prompted to take a dinner break partway through the adventure. It’s definitely an all evening event, so you’ll want plenty of time to experience it without getting tired!
If you get stuck on any clues, don’t worry! You can use your phone to scan the QR codes for extra hints! We got stuck a few times, and the extra hints were very helpful!
Take this as a chance to unplug and be fully immersed in the experience with your partner! (but still bring your phone with you just incase the clues get a little tough!)
Pack light! You really won’t need to pack much at all for this stay! They make it so easy (they even supply some snacks and drinks!) All you’ll need is some comfy clothes that you can move around in (or use the robes!), your phone (in case you need some extra hints), and your toiletries!
Why Every Couple Needs a Getaway like this
I think it’s really important to step outside your routine, even just for one night. Planning trips can be a lot of stress, it can literally feel like a full time job booking flights, hotels, booking activities and figuring out transportation in a new place, and sometimes that’s too much. For Romantic Adventure Getaways, you don’t need to book an international flight or plan a week-long vacation to feel like you’ve escaped.
This ‘Wizard Romance’ suite truly felt like an escape. With no distractions, no endless to-do list, no worrying about chores, we were fully immersed. Working together to solve the clues, exploring new rooms, and experiencing new things together.
I think these kinds of microadventures are essential. Especially in long-term relationships, when you start to feel like you’re living life on autopilot. Little getaways like this create new memories, inside jokes, and shared experiences that keep things fresh. Some of the best moments happen when you say yes to something a little unexpected. Like spending the evening as wizards, without ever leaving Ohio!
